heatherhaynesknits will be holding further Holiday Knitting Workshops 16th-19th March 2015 at the Cumbria Grand Hotel, Grange over Sands, in the Lake District Peninsula.

These workshops will give you an opportunity to use fantastic luxury yarns by Artyarns and Artesano. They are designed to encourage those with basic knitting skills to find confidence to take their knitting a little further in a pleasant environment with like minded people. There will be a maximum of ten people to ensure personal tuition. Patience and encouragement will abound so please do come and join us! Advanced knitters are welcome but may already be familiar with the skills we will be using.

Workshops will be held on Monday evening (day of arrival),Tuesday morning and afternoon, Wednesday morning and evening and Thursday morning (day of departure). Workshops are optional so please feel free to take a break if required.

Workshops will be looking at various different techniques: several ways to cast on and off; some different increases and decreases; basic reading of lace chart and symbols; little extras such as adding beads to your work; and opportunities to try different needles and yarns  in the technique workshops. Yarns used in the workshop will include yarns by

Iris Schreier, co-founder of Artyarns, has kindly given permission for us to use her Every Which Way Shawl pattern and a shawl kit (rrp £53) is included in the inclusive price – you will begin the shawl by the end of the break. See for colourways.

There will be one free afternoon for time to explore the locality but the focus is on the workshops.

Please note these workshops are for those who already have basic skills in knitting and crochet and who wish to extend/refresh their skills and find the confidence to take their knitting and crochet a little further. The workshops will be small groups (maximum of eight people) to ensure close tuition and will take place at my house where car parking is available. The nearest bus and railway station is Lincoln (Lincolnshire, UK) and if you arrive by bus or train you will need to take a taxi from the station to my house.

A HeatherHaynesKnits group has been set up on Ravelry for those attending workshops so you can post photos of your projects and remain in contact with those you meet. You will also be able to raise any queries you may have after the workshops.

Afternoon Technique Workshops
These will be from 2pm – 5pm. Tea and coffee will be provided.
The basics of the technique being taught will be explained to you and you will be provided with written workshop sheets. You will knit or crochet swatches which you will take away with you and the yarn for these will be provided on the day.

Project Workshops
These will be all day workshops. Tea and coffee will be provided.
The morning session will run from 10.30am – 12.30pm and the afternoon session will run from 1.30pm – 3.30pm. Please bring a packed lunch for the lunch break.
The yarn and pattern for the project will be provided. The pattern will be explained and you will be provided with written workshop sheets. You will work on techniques required to complete the pattern in the workshop. Any yarn required to knit or crochet swatches will be provided. You should then be able to complete your project at home.
